The University Park Dream Home: 3924 Bryn Mawr

The foundation of Tanya’s flourishing lifestyle empire has been her magnificent University Park residence at 3924 Bryn Mawr. This stunning property, a true reflection of Tanya’s impeccable style and sophisticated taste, has served as a cherished family home for decades. Now, with their children grown and a desire for a more travel-friendly, “leave-able” dwelling, Tanya and Pete are preparing to transition. Expertly handled by Allie Beth Allman’s esteemed agent, Lillie Young, the Bryn Mawr home has just made its debut on the MLS, presenting a rare opportunity for discerning buyers in the Park Cities market.

Spanning an impressive 5,266 square feet, this custom-built masterpiece, constructed by Tanya and Pete in 1989, boasts five spacious bedrooms, three and a half luxurious baths, elegant formal living areas, and a private guest house. Situated on a generous 65 by 160-foot lot, the property offers not only ample outdoor space but also the convenience of being within comfortable walking distance of Hyer Elementary. The expansive backyard is an entertainer’s paradise, featuring a sparkling swimming pool, a rejuvenating spa, and abundant patio space for al fresco dining and relaxation.

Architectural Elegance and Thoughtful Renovations

The home’s floor plan is meticulously designed for both grand entertaining and comfortable family living. Guests are welcomed by a dramatic marbled entry that gracefully transitions into elegant formal rooms, adorned with rich hardwood flooring and impressive floor-to-ceiling windows that bathe the interiors in natural light. The heart of the home, the kitchen, underwent a significant remodel in 2015, now showcasing exquisite natural marble countertops, top-of-the-line stainless steel Thermador appliances, and custom cabinetry that blends functionality with timeless beauty. This culinary haven seamlessly flows into a large, inviting family living area, which offers picturesque views of the back patio, the beautiful saltwater pool, spa, and the meticulously landscaped yard.

The opulence extends to the private quarters, with the master bedroom, master bath, and an envy-inducing master closet all benefiting from a comprehensive remodel in 2015. Adjacent to the main residence, above the detached garage, lies a charming one-bedroom guest house, complete with a kitchenette and a full bath, providing perfect accommodation for visitors or a private retreat. This entire sophisticated dwelling overlooks the tranquil pool, embodying the refined essence of Tanya herself.

An Exclusive Interview with Tanya Foster: Insights on Home, Design, and Downsizing

In a recent conversation, Tanya shared personal insights into her home, her design philosophy, and the emotional journey of preparing to leave a place filled with so many memories.

The Pristine Home Office: A Blogger’s Sanctuary

Interviewer: You don’t really work from home, do you? Your office is always so neat, unlike mine which looks like a “blue norther” has blown through! How do you maintain such an organized workspace?

Tanya Foster: Oh, but I absolutely do work from home! I spend about 90% of my time right here in my home office. This room holds a special place, as it was beautifully decorated by Amy Berry as part of a collaborative project for my lifestyle blog. If you follow me on social media (@tanyafosterblog) or regularly read my blog (TanyaFoster.com), you’ll definitely recognize it. It’s also a favorite hangout spot for Sparky and Max, our beloved Norfolk Terriers. I’m truly delighted with how it turned out – it’s a space that’s both functional and aesthetically pleasing.

A Home Built on Memories and Evolving Design

Interviewer: Your home is truly stunning! Did you personally design it?

Tanya Foster: Thank you! We’ve called this place home for a very long time – we actually built this house in 1989 and have been its sole owners. Over the decades, I’ve had the wonderful opportunity to collaborate with incredibly talented designers to not only decorate but also continuously renovate and refresh its spaces. I genuinely love a good project and find immense joy in the creative process of transforming a living space.

Favorite Spaces: From Formal Elegance to Family Comfort

Interviewer: Which rooms hold a special place in your heart?

Tanya Foster: The blue formal sitting room is definitely a family favorite! It’s actually modeled after a room we admired at Versailles, so it brings a touch of classic elegance. Beyond that, we practically live in the kitchen, the family room, and all the cozy spaces upstairs where everyday life unfolds.

The Emotional Journey of Downsizing

Interviewer: As a fellow soon-to-be downsizer, I have to ask: is it going to be difficult to leave this home?

Tanya Foster: Ha! YES, it will be incredibly hard. We raised all our children here, and every corner of this house is imbued with countless fond memories, milestones, and family moments. It truly feels like an extension of our family history. However, we know it’s time for another wonderful Park Cities family to move in and create their own cherished memories. The house is perfectly situated within walking distance of Hyer Elementary school, making it ideal for a family with young children. There’s also a beautiful park and tennis courts nearby, enhancing its appeal as a prime family location. Our long tenure here, over three decades, is proof of its unbeatable location and timeless charm.

Non-Negotiables for the Next Abode

Interviewer: What aspects of this home are absolutely essential for your next residence?

Tanya Foster: As empty nesters, we are definitely downsizing, but certain luxuries remain non-negotiable. A spacious master bedroom, a beautifully appointed master bath, and, of course, a substantial master closet are absolute must-haves! Especially for a fashion blogger like myself, ample storage and a well-organized closet are paramount.

Letting Go: Prioritizing a “Lock and Go” Lifestyle

Interviewer: And what are you prepared to part with in your new home?

Tanya’s famous office, a serene and stylish workspace.

Tanya Foster: We’re ready to part with the extensive pool, the large yard, and the back guest house. While they served their purpose beautifully during the years we had a bustling household and entertained frequently, they are simply no longer utilized to their full potential now. Our focus has shifted to a lifestyle that allows us more freedom to travel without the extensive upkeep of a larger property.

Navigating the Collection: Art and Furniture Downsizing

Interviewer: Speaking of parting with things, will you have to let go of some of your art and furniture?

Tanya Foster: YES! That is still a significant part of the puzzle we’re trying to solve. We’ve been passionate collectors of French and English antiques and furniture for many, many years, accumulating a cherished collection. Deciding what to keep and what to transition to new homes will undoubtedly be one of the most challenging aspects of this move.

The Vision for the Next Chapter: Smaller, Simpler, Still Chic

Interviewer: So, where are you envisioning your next beautiful abode, and are there any dramatic style changes on the horizon?

Tanya Foster: No dramatic style changes, but perhaps a slightly less formal aesthetic. It will absolutely remain within the Park Cities area, as we adore this community, but it will certainly be smaller. We’re at a stage of life where the desire for a “lock and go” home, one that offers ease of maintenance and allows us to travel spontaneously, is a top priority. We’re looking forward to finding a charming, sophisticated space that perfectly suits this new, exciting chapter.

Conclusion: A New Horizon for Tanya Foster

Tanya Foster’s journey is a testament to embracing life’s evolving stages with elegance and foresight. As she and Pete prepare to say goodbye to their beloved 3924 Bryn Mawr home, they are not only closing a chapter filled with cherished memories but also opening the door to a new adventure. Their transition to a smaller, more adaptable home in Park Cities speaks to a modern luxury lifestyle that prioritizes freedom, travel, and refined living without the demands of a large estate. For anyone seeking inspiration on how to gracefully navigate life’s changes, especially empty nesting and downsizing, Tanya Foster continues to be a radiant guide, demonstrating that every transition can be an opportunity for renewed joy and sophisticated living.
