Joanna England: Tiffany, thank you for inviting us into your beautiful home. Is this your first experience being part of a home tour?

Tiffany Diederich: Yes, this is our very first home tour! The association has asked us a few times over the years, and we finally decided it was the right time to give in.

England: I can only imagine the amount of work involved! What ultimately convinced you? Was there a particular renovation project that provided the extra push?

Diederich: Honestly, the sheer idea of so many people walking through your home can be a bit daunting! But yes, completing our kitchen renovation this year definitely provided that final push. Also, our youngest child is now three, so we’ve finally moved past the intensive baby stage. With a bit more breathing room, we thought, ‘Why not?’ It felt like the perfect moment.

England: I can’t even begin to imagine managing a kitchen renovation with young children in the house! We did ours when I was pregnant, and it felt like an endless challenge every single day.

Diederich: It’s certainly not easy, and it’s especially tough when you have little ones who need to eat and have their routines disrupted! But we’ve actually been remodeling various parts of the house ever since we moved in four years ago, so I think my kids are pretty accustomed to us always having a project on the go!

The Heart of the Home: A Personalized Tudor Revival

England: Tell us a little more about your home at 809 Newell. What do you personally love most about it? And what do you think tour-goers will find most captivating?

Diederich: Our house underwent a significant remodel in 2005 before we purchased it. However, when we moved in, we knew we wanted to reconfigure certain elements to truly make it feel like ours. One of the aspects I absolutely adore is the layout: we have three bedrooms upstairs and two downstairs. We’ve repurposed the downstairs bedrooms into a comfortable guest room and a dedicated TV room, which has been incredibly practical for our family. I particularly love having all the primary bedrooms upstairs; it creates a cozy, private living space. Our home has such a warm, inviting feel, and we’ve truly strived to utilize every single inch of space. With older homes, you really have to be intentional about creating “usable” space, and that’s been a core philosophy for us. But without a doubt, my most favorite part of our entire house is our screened-in porch, which was custom-designed for us by my talented brother-in-law. We genuinely live on that porch for nine months out of the year!

England: Screened porches are absolutely essential for enjoying the beautiful Dallas weather, especially during spring and fall! Speaking of which, what specific preparations are you currently undertaking to get everything ready for the tour?

The Final Touches: Landscaping and Lingering Projects

Diederich: Right now, our primary focus is on repairing all the landscaping that sadly didn’t survive this past brutal winter. With the kitchen remodel finally complete inside, the interior of the house is pretty much set. But I must admit, I seriously lack a green thumb, so getting the exterior into shape is our main priority at the moment!

England: Yes, this winter was particularly harsh! I bet your fireplace got quite a workout, keeping everyone warm!

Diederich: It’s funny you mention that, because it’s a gas fireplace, but for some reason, we just never seem to turn it on! Laziness? Probably! But yes, the winter was indeed harsh, and to make things even more challenging, we were in the middle of our kitchen remodel during that awful ice storm. It was brutal! For many days, we had open spaces on the kitchen floor, which was absolutely freezing. We practically hibernated upstairs for most of the winter!

England: I would have had that puppy cranked up to full blast! Alright, my last question: What are your plans once the home tour is finally over?

Diederich: Oh, the plan is simple: relax, sit back, and truly enjoy the fact that every single little project on our house is finally complete! It’s going to be such a wonderful feeling.
