It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Kay Hardee McFarlane, a vibrant Dallas Realtor and cherished member of the community, who departed peacefully in her sleep at her home on Sunday, March 4, 2018. Kay’s life was a testament to her passionate spirit, unwavering dedication, and the remarkable ability to connect with people from all walks of life. Her warmth, generosity, and professional acumen left an indelible mark on everyone she encountered, particularly within the dynamic Dallas real estate landscape.

Born on February 17, 1967, in the charming city of Little Rock, Arkansas, Kay’s journey was rooted in a rich Southern heritage. She was the beloved daughter of Jan (Nix) McFarlane of Little Rock and Robert S. McFarlane, Jr., who hailed from Cleveland, Mississippi. Kay carried her Southern grace and charm throughout her life, yet she wholeheartedly embraced Texas as her adopted home, particularly the serene beauty of the Texas Hill Country, a place she held dear to her heart.

A Proud Heritage and Cherished Family Connections

Kay’s family lineage was a source of immense pride. She is survived by her devoted brother, Guy Everett McFarlane of Dallas, and her loving Aunt, Ladye Kay (Nix) Allen, also of Dallas. Her memory will be cherished by her beloved cousin, Taylor (Allen) Vincent, and her two adoring nephews, Rennic T. Vincent and Z. Nash Vincent, both residing in Durango, Colorado. Her family was the cornerstone of her life, providing a foundation of love and support that shaped her compassionate nature.

Kay was preceded in death by her esteemed father, Robert S. McFarlane, Jr., and her cherished grandparents: Jonnie (Rowland) Nix and Cecil Everett Nix of Pine Bluff, Arkansas, and Virginia Guy (Hardee) McFarlane of Cleveland, Mississippi. Their legacies, particularly that of her paternal Great Grandfather, William Guy Hardee, Esq., deeply resonated with Kay. Mr. Hardee, a prominent figure from Cleveland, Mississippi, generously donated the land for the establishment of Delta State College, and the Freshman’s Girl’s Dormitory, Hardee Hall, was named in his honor. This historical connection filled Kay with a deep sense of pride, anchoring her appreciation for her Southern roots even as she flourished in Texas.

Nurturing Roots: Education and Early Adventures

Kay’s formative years were marked by a blend of adventure and academic pursuit. At the tender age of eight, she attended the renowned Camp Mystic in Hunt, Texas, where her spirited nature and dedication earned her the coveted Silver M Award – an early indicator of her drive and ability to excel. Her foundational education began at Jefferson Preparatory School in Pine Bluff, Arkansas, where she cultivated a strong academic base.

Upon moving to Dallas, Kay continued her education, attending McCullough Middle School and subsequently graduating in 1985 from Highland Park High School. Her time as a “Scottie” was a source of immense pride, a connection she maintained throughout her life. She fostered deep and lasting friendships from her high school days, possessing a remarkable ability to remember and connect with nearly everyone from every grade. This enduring camaraderie was a testament to her magnetic personality and genuine interest in others. Many fondly recall “little Kay” navigating her impressive, huge old blue Oldsmobile convertible around the school, a vivid image that encapsulates her unique and memorable presence during her youth. Even at the time of her passing, her enthusiasm for her alma mater remained undimmed, as she was still happily cheering the Scotties on to State Championship Victory.
