Ebby Halliday Agents Equip Every Elementary Student for Success

Ebby Halliday Companies agents gather for the Back-to-School Backpack Drive

The Ebby Halliday Companies stands as a beacon of community commitment, its very foundation rooted in the profound generosity championed by its legendary founder, Ebby Halliday. Her enduring personal mantra, “Do Something for Someone Every Day,” continues to resonate deeply within the organization, serving as a guiding principle for a new generation of dedicated agents. These professionals enthusiastically embody this spirit, translating it into tangible acts of kindness and support that uplift communities across North Texas.

A shining example of this ingrained philanthropic culture is the recent Back-to-School Backpack Drive, a vital initiative spearheaded by the company’s forward-thinking Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI) Council. Recognizing the critical need to equip young learners for success, agents from both Ebby Halliday Realtors and Dave Perry-Miller Real Estate were provided with comprehensive school supply lists specifically tailored for Ebby Halliday Elementary School, nestled in the heart of southeast Dallas. The call to action was clear: help provide essential tools to students embarking on a new academic year.

The response to the DEI Council’s challenge was nothing short of extraordinary. Across more than 30 offices comprising The Ebby Halliday Companies, agents sprang into action with remarkable speed and collective enthusiasm. Within an impressive span of just one week, the initiative gathered significant momentum. Hundreds of backpacks, meticulously filled with an array of essential supplies – from crisp notebooks and sharp pencils to vibrant markers and sturdy binders – were collected, sorted, and prepared for delivery. This monumental effort ensured that every student at Ebby Halliday Elementary would be ready for the upcoming academic year, with all donations arriving well in advance of the crucial Meet the Teacher night on August 12, fostering a sense of excitement and readiness for learning.

Chris Kelly, CEO & President of The Ebby Halliday Companies, expressed immense pride and satisfaction with the collective effort, highlighting its profound significance in the current climate. “Given what we’ve asked the children in our communities to endure and overcome these past 18 months,” Kelly remarked, acknowledging the challenges posed by recent global events, “helping get their school year off on the right note is the least we can do to contribute towards their success. I am incredibly proud of how the entirety of the Ebby Halliday Companies rallied around the challenge issued by our Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Council.” His words underscored not only the success of the drive but also the deep-seated empathy and commitment to community welfare that defines the organization. This initiative was more than just providing school supplies; it was about investing in the future, fostering resilience, and ensuring that every child feels supported and valued as they embark on their educational journey.

At the helm of the EHC’s impactful Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Council are Sylvia Sotelo Kidd and Pamela Young, both esteemed sales leaders within the organization. Kidd serves the Ebby Halliday offices in Rockwall and Forney, while Young leads in Southwest Dallas, bringing a wealth of experience and a deep understanding of their respective communities to their critical roles. Their leadership was instrumental in mobilizing the vast network of agents and staff towards a common, noble goal.

The ambitious target set by the Council was to gather 650 backpacks for the students of Ebby Halliday Elementary. Through the unwavering dedication and generous spirit of the entire company, this goal was not just met, but impressively surpassed. “The Council’s goal was to gather 650 backpacks and we beat that by three!” beamed Kidd, celebrating the collective achievement. Furthermore, she proudly noted, “We also have additional supplies for almost 100 more students,” signifying an overflow of generosity that will benefit even more young learners.

Kidd further elaborated on the profound philosophy underpinning such community outreach efforts. “Our mission with community outreach efforts like this is twofold,” she explained, emphasizing the comprehensive impact the DEI Council strives for. “We want to encourage both internal growth among our agents, staff and executives, and growth among our own community members. We want to ensure they have the opportunity to bridge generational wealth gaps. This mindset can start as early as Kindergarten.” This statement eloquently articulates the holistic vision of the DEI Council: fostering a culture of internal collaboration and empathy, while simultaneously empowering external communities. By providing foundational educational tools, the initiative lays groundwork for long-term success, subtly addressing broader societal challenges by promoting equity from the very start of a child’s academic journey.

Pamela Young expanded on these ambitious plans, highlighting the continuous commitment to community enrichment. “In addition to this, committee members have already identified a few key areas in North Texas where we plan to hold educational seminars regarding credit and lending, and host other beneficial programs.” These future initiatives demonstrate a proactive approach to addressing systemic barriers to economic mobility. By focusing on vital topics such as financial literacy and access to capital, The Ebby Halliday Companies aims to empower individuals and families with the knowledge and resources necessary to achieve financial stability and, crucially, the dream of homeownership. Young passionately concluded, “The potential to own a home should be for everyone,” echoing the company’s core belief in inclusive prosperity and equitable opportunities for all members of the community.

Ebby Halliday Elementary School, the proud recipient of these invaluable donations, itself represents a significant milestone in community development. The school first opened its doors in August 2011, a direct outcome of the visionary 2008 Dallas Independent School District (DISD) bond package. This modern, two-story educational facility was meticulously designed with environmental sustainability in mind, featuring energy-efficient systems and thoughtful architecture that blends seamlessly into its unique surroundings. It is situated in a distinctive, almost rural-like enclave known as Rylie, where the sight of manufactured homes alongside grazing horses paints a picturesque and somewhat unexpected tableau within the sprawling urban landscape of Dallas.

Intriguingly, just behind the school grounds, the hum of bulldozers and construction equipment signifies a new chapter for the area. These machines are actively preparing lots for a large single-family housing development, a clear indication of growth and investment in Rylie. This burgeoning development, occurring so close to a school that bears the name of a real estate icon, serves as a powerful symbol of hope for community members. It whispers the promise that the dream of owning a home, a cornerstone of generational wealth and stability, can indeed become a tangible reality for them, too. The proactive efforts of The Ebby Halliday Companies, through initiatives like the backpack drive and future financial literacy programs, directly support this larger vision, fostering a cycle of education, opportunity, and eventual homeownership within the vibrant Rylie community and beyond.
